【Kitchen Essential】SC Johnson Used Cooking Oil Solidifier
This is a very common household product in Japan used to solidify leftover cooking oil after frying. Instead of pouring used oil down the sink, this powder turns hot oil into a solid, making disposal much cleaner and easier.
Made by SC Johnson, a well-known household cleaning and home care company.
Many Japanese households regularly keep this in the kitchen.
Why People Use It
After frying tempura, fried chicken, fries, or other foods, a large amount of oil is usually left in the pot.
Pouring oil directly into the drain can:
• Clog pipes
• Cause environmental pollution
• Create unpleasant cleanup
This solidifier transforms hot oil into a jelly-like or wax-like solid, allowing it to be disposed of easily as burnable household garbage.
Benefits
• No messy hands
• No need to soak oil with paper towels
• No leaking oil
• Cleaner than pouring oil into cartons or plastic bags
• Fry crumbs solidify together with the oil
• Makes pot cleaning much easier
• More environmentally friendly
Ingredients
100% plant-derived ingredients.
Main components include:
• Vegetable fatty acids
• Usually palm oil-derived ingredients
It is not an industrial chemical glue.
How to Use
Turn off the heat after frying
The powder must be added while the oil is still hot, but the stove must be turned off first.
Add the powder into the hot oil
Standard ratio:
• 1 packet for approximately 600ml of oil
Use more powder if there is more oil.
Stir until fully dissolved
Make sure there are no visible granules remaining.
Let it cool for about 1 hour
The oil will begin to solidify once the temperature drops below around 40°C.
Dispose after solidifying
The oil becomes a solid block that can be lifted out and thrown away easily.
Important Notes
• Not edible
Even though it is plant-based, it is not food.
• Keep away from children
To prevent accidental ingestion.
• Cold oil will not solidify properly
If the oil has already cooled, reheat it to around 80°C first.
• Using too little powder may prevent solidification
Adjust the amount according to the oil volume if needed.
